Meet Dave

dave124-200x300Hello, I’m Dave Amaditz, a YA novelist writing about… Real stories. Real life.

When I write, I hope to transport the reader into the world I’ve created so that they will be able to experience life through the eyes of my characters and the places they live… at least for a little while. I most enjoy writing contemporary young adult novels where my main focus is to write with a slant toward gritty realism. While doing so, I strive to portray at least one of my characters as a societal underdog in order to showcase the physical and mental limitations imposed on them because of birth or the world in which they have been raised. Having said that, I also write middle grade fiction in the same genre and have written one novel as a blend of contemporary and science fiction.

What happens when I’m not writing, thinking about writing or studying to improve my writing? Of course, I’m reading some of my favorite authors and allowing them to transport me into the world they have created.

There are other things, too. I’m busy in my local community, currently serving my 19th year on my local school board. Since a 1983 diving accident that left me a quadriplegic, I’ve worked as a social worker, teacher, and other odd jobs. I’m passionate about regaining my ability to walk, and have ambulated with assistance as far as 400 feet. I continue working on my therapy at home three or more days a week with the help of my wife of 32 years and my six children.
